A pattern that can be fished form one end of the season to the other, the Willie Gunn can be found in many guises at different times of the year. Fly tyers tend to dress heavily with brighter colours for Spring time fishing, with the colours gradually being mixed darker towards the latter end of the season. The pattern can be fished in all water conditions to great effect.

Newly arrived, fresh fish just cannot seem to be able to resist this most striking of patterns. Silver bodied, and adorned with bright sparkling hackles of Blue and Magenta lend a particularly modern appearance to this fly despite its mounting years. It is very effective in all sizes as long as the water is clear.

There seem to be occasions that are just made for the simplest of patterns. This fulfils much of the criteria demanded of such a Pattern. Very good for Sea Trout in smaller sizes, this pattern has received more of the variant treatment than any other pattern, testament to its versatility and success.

Space restrictions dictate the little that we can say about this pattern compared to what could be said about it ! It is a Salmon fly of the highest order and a Sea Trout Fly which has very few peers. With its classical hairwing silhouette, J.C. cheeks and bright holographic Silver body, this fly fishes in an extraordinarily wide array of water conditions and colours. Smaller sizes are excellent for Sea Trout and Grilse in summer low water conditions whereas the larger sizes are excellent in the late Spring and early Autumn times

A very old pattern of Irish origin which has seen somewhat of a revival in recent years. Similar in many ways to the Stoats Tail series, the Badger wing assists the pattern in fishing higher in the water column, a useful trait during low flows in Summertime when Grilse and Sea Trout are in the river. Its rich Blue front hackle is complimented by the clean body of Silver Mylar giving the pattern an overall bright appearance which can be useful in peat stained water

A beautiful pattern which fishes very well for Grilse in the lower summer flows, particularly when fished on a sink-tip line. Its body of Red and Black is a well regarded combination which when combined with the Orange and White wing produces a very realistic shrimp imitation.
